There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked cookies to bring the holiday spirit to life. 🎄 Classic Christmas sugar cookies are a timeless tradition, and they’re perfect for getting your little ones involved in the kitchen!

Here’s an easy recipe for delicious sugar cookies, along with some creative decorating ideas to make your Christmas extra sweet.

Classic Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix It Up: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla, and almond extract.

  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until a dough forms.

  3. Chill: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour. This makes it easier to roll out!

  4. Roll & Cut: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use these Christmas Cookie Cutters to create festive shapes like trees, stars, and snowflakes.

  5. Bake: Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool completely before decorating.
